This week has felt like it was moving in slow motion—long, dragging, but still filled with moments worth remembering.
Monday was a holiday: Martin Luther King Jr. Remembrance Day and President Trump's Inauguration. Emma and I had the day off, but it wasn’t quite the break I had hoped for. I wasn’t feeling my best, so I spent most of the day trying to rest while Dallin left early to head back to college. It was great having him home, even if it was just for a short time. There’s always something special about family being together under one roof.
Tuesday was another no-work/school day for Emma and me—semester break! Ricky had to work, so Emma and I decided to make the most of it. We headed to the DOL (Department of Licensing), where Emma took her eye exam for her driver’s license. Let’s just say, I didn’t realize she was as “blind” as she is, but she passed with flying colors! Her driver’s license is now in the mail. That felt like a milestone. After that, we ran a few errands, grabbed lunch, and went home to relax. Later, Ricky came home and—true to his routine—broke into his daily TikTok/Instagram dance. He’s got some serious dedication to that.
Wednesday was back to the grind for me with work and school for Emma. Ricky had his usual day, but Emma had her last check-up with the orthodontist. Unfortunately, it turns out she’s got three wisdom teeth coming in. Looks like we’ll be scheduling a procedure soon. And then there’s Inde, our oldest European Doberman. She's battling both cancer and severe arthritis, and it’s becoming harder and harder for her to move. The cold weather isn’t helping, and it’s just heartbreaking to watch her struggle. Her spirit is still so strong, but her body is telling a different story.
Thursday was much of the same for Inde—she’s still pushing through, but you can see the toll it’s taking. We’re making adjustments to help her, but it’s hard knowing time is limited with her. The harness we’ve been using is barely cutting it anymore, and I feel so helpless in those moments. On a brighter note, Garret Facetimed me, and I got to see Avery in action! FaceTime is such a game changer—it’s not the same as being there, but it’s the next best thing. I make sure to get daily pictures, but seeing her live? That’s pure joy.
Friday has arrived, and I’m hoping the forecast is right—supposed to be 10 degrees warmer today! Maybe I can get outside to clean up the yard a bit, especially since I’m hoping to get some fresh air. Ricky will be doing his dance (as usual), Emma will be working on school, and I’ll be doing my best to keep my sanity intact. And here's a fun little tidbit to end the week: our granddaughter Avery turned three months old today. Time really flies—she’s growing so fast, and I can't wait to see her again soon.
All in all, it’s been a week of little victories and a lot of reflection. Here's to hoping next week brings a little more sunshine, both literally and figuratively.
